UIG will assist you in designing quality water, wastewater treatment or sewage treatment facilities for your specific needs, utilizing our bolted steel tanks, welded steel tanks and/or fiberglass storage tanks.

In all cases, UIG has the expertise to assist your selection of waste treating options. We will consult with your team to choose the optimum economic system for your needs.

Waste Water:

Not all waste water is the same. It may be that the waste water from your industrial application is relatively clean, but not quite appropriate for discharge into the environment. Or you may be dealing with a high level of contamination, as may be the case with civic sewage systems.

Relatively strict environmental laws control the levels of contamination in the effluent from most industrial and civic sources. These laws ensure safe treatment and disposal of waste waters worldwide. There are many different types of waste water treatment processes. Each process is intended to produce water that can be recycled to industrial applications or disposed of safely. Prior to selecting and designing the treatment operations, it will likely be necessary to obtain a proper laboratory analysis to identify the character and amounts of each significant contaminant. Once those are known, UIG may assist you to select the best and most economical treatment system. UIG will plan, design, fabricate and construct your complete waste water treatment facility.

Sewage Treatment Plants:

Treatment of sewage is a special case and the proper design of such plants requires identification of certain parameters, including but not limited to:

• Daily Flow Rates
• Hours of Use
• Type and Make-up of the Sewage
• Grease and Oil Content
• BOD – Biological Oxygen Demand
• COD – Chemical Oxygen Demand
• T.S.S. – Total Suspended Solids
• pH – measurement of acidity or alkalinity
• Temperature
• Average Size of Particulate Solids
• Odor and Available Area for Plant
• Area Available for Disposal of Waste Sludge
• and Others…

Your answers about these parameters will help determine the type of sewage treatment plant you will need.

WATER TREATMENT:

There are several means of treating water for public and industrial use. Among those are Reverse Osmosis (R/O), Ultraviolet (UV) exposure and others. UIG will design and supply the right water treatment system for your needs, ensuring that the resulting water is clean, pure and ready for immediate use in your applications.

Reverse Osmosis:

Reverse Osmosis (R/O) is often the preferred method of choice for the desalination of brines and sea water. The R/O process involves passing water at pressure past and partially through a specially designed membrane that removes salt and other contaminants.

R/O operations can be rather expensive for normal seawater desalination applications, however, the same technology may be applied more economically to the removal of lesser impurities from water from other sources.

Even regular sources of tap water may contain contaminants (including lead, arsenic, mercury, diluted pesticides and others) that must be removed. Water from rivers and lakes may contain these impurities, bacteria and other foreign matter that must be removed before the water is safe to drink.

Membranes similar to those used in R/O desalination are used at somewhat relaxed operating conditions to offer economical operations for potable water and specialized water treatment uses.

R/O units range from small 5 gallons per day (~800 cc/hour) portable units to larger operations up to thousands of gallons per hour.

Your Source Water:

When you have identified your source water, it will be necessary to obtain a water analysis, identifying the impurities and their concentrations.

From that data, a suitable water treating system may be identified and a decision whether or not R/O is the best solution for your needs.

Depending on the degree and types of contamination present, the recommended process may simply require multimedia filters with or without the use of and R/O system.

Multimedia filters are designed to remove specific impurities by a series of interconnected filters. These filters may also remove odors and tastes cause by dissolved and suspended impurities in the water.

Many of these units may be skid-mounted and equipped with the pumps, valves and controls to make them immediately operational.

If R/O clean-up is determined to be necessary, it would be installed after the filter system.

UV (Ultraviolet) Systems:

UV (Ultraviolet) light systems use high energy ultraviolet light to kill bacteria and other organism that may be present in water. A major advantage of UV systems is that NO chemicals are needed to kill such microbes. UV systems usually very cost effective and simple to install.
It should be noted that UV will not remove dissolved chemicals such as arsenic, lead, etc., nor will it eliminate suspended solids.

UIG designs, fabricates and installs all types of water treatment plants to suit your requirements. Depending on the capability, the plants may be packaged units, single or multiple tanks or a combination designed for your specific needs and available construction area. Let us help you design your next project from start to finish.

Most tank manufacturers stop at the tank. United Industries Group is different. We supply many different types of tanks including bolted, welded, shop fabricated and FRP tanks but we dont stop there. We also have the experience and knowledge to provide the engineering, fabrication and suppy items such as piping, components, accessories, controls and more, allowing you to focus on the project instead of the procurement for many different sources.

Complete Integration – It’s exactly what your tanks need!

UIG offers full service planning, design, fabrication, installation and operational assistance for all your industrial applications. We are systems integrators who will bring your entire operations under one management team, simplifying your project design, construction and operation.

UIG specializes in thinking outside the tank and beyond the limits of most tank suppliers. We will make your project run smoothly and efficiently from concept to start-up and beyond.

Storage or process tanks seldom stand alone and are generally part of a more complex operation. In most cases the tanks are linked by extensive piping and a series of pumps, valves and sensors. Flow between the various locations is monitored and controlled to ensure proper performance and safety.

Whatever their function, tanks are just a part of the larger facility. Any specific tank may play an important but minor role in an otherwise complicated bigger picture. So, your tank has to be the right one. UIG will help you to look beyond the simple stages to ensure your project runs as it is meant to do.

Often there are many process operations before and after the basic storage tank facilities. Most tank suppliers do only that – supply the tank – and leave the rest to your own team. UIG does it all and does it properly, every time.

United Industries Group provides top of the line fiberglass tanks used in projects that require resistiance from highly corrosive materials. Common applications include acids, alkali, bleaches, brines, chlorides, solvents, oxidizers and more.

United Industries Group, Inc. (UIG) manufactures a variety of fiberglass tanks using the highest quality corrosion-resistant reinforced plastic (FRP Tank) materials. Products include process vessels, chemical storage tanks, foul air ducting, piping and more.

We will design and fabricate tanks to your specifications in accordance with ASTM or other world industrial standards using the highest performance, high temperature epoxy vinyl ester resins.

Common applications include acids, alkali, bleaches, brines, chlorides, solvents, oxidizers and more.

Contact us to learn how UIG’s FRP tanks may best suit your specific application.

CUSTOM FABRICATION

Shop manufacture of FRP tanks is possible up to about fourteen feet (~four meters) diameter using either a filament winding or spray-up process. The thermoset resins used in both filament wound and spray-up fabrication commonly include polyesters, vinyl esters and isophthalics.

Filament winding consists winding resin-impregnated glass fibers in predetermined patterns. After the laminate layers are wound-on, the tank shell is allowed to cure at room temperature before secondary bonding operations begin.

Spray-up is an open molding fabrication method used to make FRP tank bottoms and dished tops and parts that have large surface area. Chopped fiberglass reinforcements and catalyzed resin are deposited onto a mold surface. Rollers or squeegees are used to remove entrapped air and work the resin into the reinforcements. Woven fabric is added to give the laminate greater strength.

These shop fabricated fiberglass tanks can be shipped throughout the USA and most countries worldwide.

LARGER DIAMETER TANKS

Fiberglass Tanks larger than 14 feet (~4 meters) diameter are generally not economical to ship.

UIG large diameter FRP tanks are shop fabricated in segments and shipped to your site. At the factory the segments are carefully marked to assure proper field fit. The tank shell is shaped and the bottom and dished top are segmented for shipping. At the site, UIG’s field technicians install the tank, assemble and attach the bottom and head and install all fittings, manways and internals.

Large diameter, field installed fiberglass tanks are made using the same materials and fabrication methods as standard shop-fabricated tanks. The tank shell may be either chop/hoop wound or contact molded. The bottom, dished head and all joints and secondary bonding are contact molded.

Since the cost per unit of volume stored usually decreases with larger vessel sizes, it may be that one large diameter, field installed tank will be more economical than multiple smaller, shop fabricated tanks to store the same volume.

Let UIG show you how to save costs in FRP tank selection.

UIG’s geodesic domes are spherical frame structures designed to be self-supporting. Primary horizontal thrust is contained by an integral tension ring. The geodesic frame is covered with attractive non-corrugated aluminum panels. The aluminum alloys used have a proven history of weather resistance even in the harshest environments in the world. This virtually eliminates the need for periodic maintenance, coatings, or paint. UIG’s Geodesic Domes will remain virtually maintenance-free for the life of the structure. Each dome is designed with the most modern computer technology to check all loading combinations to ensure safety and integrity under all conditions.

The geodesic domes will be custom engineered for your individual structure. The self-supporting design allows maximum overhead space utilization and provides interference-free operation for floating roofs and other internals. The aspect ratio of the dome can be selected for your location and specific application, offering a a range from a very flat, low profile to a high dome for more internal clearance.

In addition, a wide range of accessories (vents, skylights, dormers, hatches, foam connections, etc.) are available to meet all your needs.

Internal Floating Roofs (IFR)

Convert your existing floating roof tank. With only slight modifications to an existing tank, a lightweight aluminum dome may be set in place to convert an external floating roof system into a domed roof tank with an internal floating cover.

This conversation will save operating, maintenance and replacement costs. Operation of your tank no longer requires attention to weather conditions. Snow, ice and water accumulations are eliminated, preventing product contamination, corrosion and the potentially expensive disaster of a sunken cover.

The existing seal systems are free to work efficiently, as designed, without the hindrance of snow and ice build-up. Labor and material resources previously reserved for maintaining your external floating roof tanks can be saved and used elsewhere in your operations.

UIG’s aluminum domes are resistant to the elements, virtually eliminating the periodic expense of painting steel roofs.

Additionally, maintenance costs of the external floater will be reduced substantially. By eliminating standing water, the friction of ice and snow loads, and high temperatures from direct sunlight, the coating used on the steel floater will last much longer. Seal system life will be extended. Also, simpler rim seals may be considered at replacement time because the requirement to resist the elements is gone. The seals may now serve the simple purpose of product conservation.

Smooth Wall Silos:

Smooth wall silos can be used for a large range of dry bulk products. They can be made on legs with hopper bottoms or skirted with supporting walls that extend to the ground. Conveyor systems can be included to transport the product to the bagging stations, to rail or truck loading facilities or to other application or storage areas. This type of silo can be a welded tank or bolted tank type of construction.

Corrugated Silo:

Corrugated silos are made with bolted panels and can be equipped with a liner to accommodate liquid storage. This style of silos can be made with the designs described above, though they are somewhat more limited in their use. For materials that tend to clump together or are otherwise not smooth-flowing, the corrugated surfaces may trap particles. However, when used for free-flowing materials, corrugated silos offer the advantage of being less expensive than smooth wall versions. Currently UIG only offers their corrugated silo product to overseas customers.

Accessories:

A variety of accessories can be fitted to both types of silo. These may include aeration systems, fans, dryers, vents, batch mixing systems, blenders, unloading augers, interior or exterior ladders and walkways, dust prevention equipment, bagging/weighing and rail/truck filling and discharging systems, elevators, explosion proof vents, flame arresters, foam and fire fighting accessories, and so on.

UIG offers an international, integrated turnkey source for your silo and bin requirements. Call on us to design, fabricate and install your silos and bins, equipped with any of the above mentioned accessories, including instrumentation and control systems for one or multiple silos.

United Industries Group Inc. manufacturers top-of-the-line glass lined storage tanks for many types of applications. UIG's tanks are unique in design and feature non-nickel primed steel sheets, eliminating the toxic nickel in many other types of glass lined tanks. UIG's steel is also designed to elimate Fish Scaling which often occurs when glass is applied to hot steel. This makes the glass stronger and much less prone to cracking or flaking. Additonally UIG rounds the edges of their panels so the entire surface of the plate is encapulated. This way there is no need to add a stainless steel edge which allows for the electrolysis created by dissimilar metals coming in contact with each other - leading to corrosion within the tank.

United Industries Group Inc. (UIG) offers glass lined steel tanks and silos for use in applications where bare metal or epoxy coating is not recommended.

These tanks are commonly called “glass fused-to-steel” and are coated inside and out with a glass enamel that binds to the metal and provides particular advantages over standard metal tanks.

The glass coating forms a hard, chemically inert layer that permanently protects the steel surface from rust, corrosion, undercutting, abrasion and stains.

Glass lined tanks are known for their low maintenance, natural resistance to contamination, greater service life and low modular construction costs. When paired with our economical Aluminum Domes and Floating Roofs you have a top of the line and economical storage solution that will last you many, many years.

Why Choose a UIG Glass Lined Tank?

UIG Glass lined tanks are very competitvely priced in the market place. We use a proprietary, specially designed steel for enameling. This steel will not cause “Fish Scaling” when glass is applied directly to the hot steel. UIG steel does not use a toxic nickel medium to bond the glass to the steel. Many glass lined tank manufacturers use a cheap steel that is not meant for enameling and apply toxic catalytic nickel oxide primer to reduce fish scaling. This is a quick fix that often leads to corrosion up the road.

UIG Glass Lined tank panels have rounded edges which are fully encapsulated in our glass fusion process.

Most manufacturers do not round their edges and, if left untreated, the rust will creep throughout the plates. Sharp angled corners cannot be coated with glass enamel. To solve this, many cover their edges with stainless steel. Again, this does not solve the problem, especially because dissimilar metals create electrolysis which accelerates corrosion.

UIG is the top supplier of welded steel tanks of all capacities, from small applications of ten thousand gallons to the largest industrial tanks measured in millions of barrels.

We offer individual tanks as well as complete packages that include all appropriate peripheral equipment and systems.

Naturally, the metallurgy of your tank and its peripheral equipment will be properly selected for its expected contents.

Field Installed Welded Storage Tanks

Field installed welded steel tanks are typically much larger than shop fabricated steel storage tanks which can be shipped to the site in one piece, thus requiring field welding to complete the tank installation. These larger tanks are constructed in sections at the shop. The sections are then shipped to the site and prepared there. The field installation process involves welding the sections together, as well as the addition of all connections and peripherals, plus final painting.

UIG will manage the various environmental concerns and regulations associated with these operations. Our experienced crews will complete the tank and system installation and thoroughly test them before being handed over to your staff.

Peripheral Equipment

Field welded tanks may only require a simple connection to the piping systems to be ready for use or, in contrast, they may be part of complex systems requiring installation of pumps, valves and other equipment prior to full operation.

They may be joined together by overhead walkways and require external stairways and/or external and internal ladders, perimeter guard rails, shell and deck man-ways, vents and numerous inlets, outlets and monitoring points.

In either case, UIG brings expert design and construction skills to your project. Our design team will determine the size and capacities of your welded tank and for all accessories – piping, pumps, valves and more – to meet your needs. Then UIG will provide our experienced crews to install your complete system.

Shop Fabricated Steel Welded Tanks

There are two types of welded steel tanks – shop fabricated and field installed (or “shop-welded” and “field-welded”). Both are commonly installed above ground and are used to store many different products, either as interim storage before being transferred elsewhere or for long term storage.

Shop fabricated steel tanks are limited to a size of about 16 feet (~5 meters) in diameter. The tanks are constructed and completed in the fabrication shop for later shipment to the job site. Prior to final finishing in the shop, the tank is sand-blasted, painted and prepared for shipment. When complete, the tank is loaded onto a truck for transfer to your site for installation. Naturally, such shop-fabricated welded tanks are restricted in their dimensions to allow them to be transported on public roads.
